Could be. Could it be a temporal thing - if we take blogging to really begin to take effect say around 2001 on, and the nature of them changes quickly (the remakes, reboots etc.), then maybe I'm thinking of material from a particular time?

Or it could be that after a week of exam and essay marking and postgrad thesis & project assessing that I really need to go to bed rather than reading blog posts :-)

Don't worry, I'll read the thesis (or watch the mini-series they'll make of it) and then it will all make sense to me.

Hey Stephen,

I think then we are reading different blogs. I really don't come across that at all. In fact, the impression my reading gives is that bloggers are aware of this discursive style and try emphatically to keep away from it.

Hi Paul,

I know what you're getting at here but the sentence "These voices, then, do not use blogging to rally the troops, or convert people to their way of thinking..." still nags at me. Some of the things I've read on blogs, some of the way it's conveyed, and even what's not there seems to me that there is still (in some cases) an underlying (overt or unconscious) evangelism along the lines of "And yet I will show you a most excellent way..." that uses their narrated experiences in part to do that. Perhaps the 'good news' though was tied more overtly to 'blogging' and 'new communities' and 'incarnational models' rather than the traditional apologetics?

Anyway, enough commenting. I'll let you get back to the editing
