Hey Julian,

Yeah I thought of that, and I agree that, given comments are already made public, I have licence to use them. I however feel that by promising to ask permission before use I am giving power back to participants, and recognising that our thoughts and opinions, as presented in comments, are still ours. Also by stating that I intend to use the material on the post I can offer an opportunity for the author to rework or rethink what they've stated so they could contribute more. Alos, I think it's nice to ask permission. I like being polite in that way (especially given some of my posts are impolite in some ways).

[Sorry pasting something from a post of mine, too lazy to rewrite it :)]
It makes sense to me. But I wonder about one thing: if people post things on the internet, doesn’t it make it part of the public sphere, and therefore do I need their permission to quote them? Couldn't one just have a blanket statement saying ‘By posting here you agree to these terms… (i.e. that I can quote you)’, or should one get individual permission from everyone?

Cool. Thanks.

In my thesis will appear the paragraph:

"Matt, author of "ilikeportello.blogspot.com" said he liked my comment policy on 18 May 2007, which pretty much made him a twat. But we still love him."
