On Tuesday 23 January 2007, Woolworths (Safeway) will be donating its entire supermarket’s profits for the day to the drought relief.
The funds will primarily be used by the CWA for immediate support for rural families with the remainder to help fund research into sustainable farming practices. This is expected to be in excess of $3 million dollars.
So if you do your normal shopping on Tuesday 23 January you will helping farming families who are current doing it tough.

I really like the sound of investing in sustainable farming practices – I wonder if the research will include ways for farmers to get more $$$ for their produce from the large supermarkets??? Somehow I doubt it….

Interesting news note. I like Kate’s take.
We shop for our fruit and veg only from places that stock produce from local farmers. With the Lindenow market gardens, stone fruit and other orchards all local, its crazy to go buy it at coles or safeway!

You’ve got a good habit going there, Kel. I wish Kate and I could get off our arses and do that. It’ll mean more power to the growers over the middle guys like so called do-gooders Woolworths.
